December 2025 Fishing Report: Epic Winter Action in Nuevo Vallarta & Riviera Nayarit
Hello, Anglers! Captain Pete here, coming to you with the latest report from the stunning waters of Nuevo Vallarta, the heart of the Riviera Nayarit fishing scene. As we say goodbye to November and officially enter December 2025, the water temperatures are settling beautifully (around 75°F/24°C). This is the perfect signal that our annual winter migration is in full swing, transforming the deep blue Pacific into a bucket-list destination for serious sport fishing. Whether you’re chasing a massive trophy or planning a fun family day bending the rod, now is the prime time to book your Nuevo Vallarta fishing charter!

Deep Sea Fishing: El Banco & El Corbetena Giants
The adrenaline is pumping offshore! Our legendary deep-sea fishing grounds—El Banco (The Bank) and El Corbetena (The Rock)—are absolutely loaded with baitfish. As a result, the apex predators are moving in for the feast, offering world-class action easily accessible from the Nuevo Vallarta Marina and other nearby Nayarit departure points.

The Striped Marlin bite is exactly what we expect from this peak winter month. We’re seeing excellent numbers hooked up on slow-trolled live bait and aggressive high-speed lures. These magnificent billfish thrive in the slightly cooler winter current breaks, delivering the high-flying, rod-testing fights that make a deep-sea trip a mandatory 8- to 12-hour adventure. If landing a beautiful billfish is your goal, now is the time!

Yellowfin Tuna are still cooperating, too! While the gigantic Cow Tuna may have pushed a little further out, we’re landing plenty of 40–80 lb schoolie fish, especially around the high structure of El Corbetena. Targeting them with heavy jigs and kite-fished baits has been our most successful technique. We are also finding an abundance of Sailfish, which are performing spectacular acrobatic displays before being safely tagged and released. We take conservation seriously, upholding a strict catch-and-release policy on all billfish to ensure a healthy fishery for the future of Nayarit fishing.

No report is complete without mentioning the delicious Dorado (or Mahi-Mahi). They are still abundant, offering terrific action and excellent table fare. Look for them chasing schools of flying fish near temperature breaks and floating debris on your offshore run.

Banderas Bay Inshore Fishing: Fast-Paced Action Suyulita fishing
For anglers on shorter, four- to six-hour trips, the magnificent Banderas Bay—right on our doorstep here in Nuevo Vallarta—is absolutely teeming with life. The inshore fishing near Punta Mita and the points around Cabo Corrientes continues to produce amazing results.

The star of our inshore show remains the powerful Roosterfish. Their activity peaks in the winter months as they aggressively forage close to the shoreline rocks and sandy beaches. Slow-trolling live mullet or caballitos (small jacks) is the guaranteed ticket for a spectacular fight right in the bay. This is a top target for inshore fishing Nuevo Vallarta.

We are also finding huge schools of hard-fighting Jack Crevalle and Spanish Mackerel, providing non-stop action that is perfect for families, beginners, and anyone who just wants constant reeling. These trips offer fast action and great table fare.

🐋 The Riviera Nayarit Wildlife Spectacle
December is truly magical. The peak of the fishing season perfectly coincides with the height of the wildlife season. The Humpback Whales have arrived in force to breed and calve in the calm, warm waters of Banderas Bay. It is a common and incredible sight to see massive mothers and their newborn calves breaching right alongside the boat! This spectacle elevates every Nuevo Vallarta charter into a full-fledged nature tour. Ask about our specialized fishing and whale watching Nuevo Vallarta combo trips!

Captain Pete’s December Tips for Sayulita
December typically brings flat, beautiful seas most days. Air temperatures are a pleasant 65°F (18°C) in the mornings, warming up to 78°F (26°C) by midday—layers are essential! The water clarity is superb right now, a major factor for hooking up with big, sight-feeding predators like Striped Marlin and Sailfish. Don’t forget the sunscreen!

If you are ready to land your trophy Yellowfin Tuna, experience explosive Roosterfish action, or just marvel at the Humpback Whales in the stunning Riviera Nayarit, give us a call or book your charter online.
