Sayulita Fishing Report January
The Christmas holidays are behind us here Sayulita fishing charters so everyone coming down is anxious to see what will be happening in January for the fantastic fishing we have here in the winter. The last part of December produced some off-the-wall fishing inshore. For the folks coming to Nuevo Vallarta, we always have incredible fishing, fun activities, whale watching, beautiful beaches, and offshore fishing. All this and, more in the month of January for anglers coming to beautiful Sayulita.
The deep-sea fishing takes a different turn in January. With the cooler water moving in and the warmer water moving farther offshore some pelagic species move to warmer waters. This is what exactly happens with black marlin who love the warmer waters here in Sayulita. The cooling of the water brings the striped marlin in for the taking. There will be days when we find marlin in schools of 10 to 20 fish. Pitch baits and high-speed lures work the best in these fishing conditions. The water temperatures here in Nuevo Vallarta never reach a cold point. The lowest temperature we have here is around 72 degrees.
The deep-sea fishing action changes in January. Always seems like when one pelagic species leaves our bay area another one shows up. Such is the case with offshore fishing in Nuevo Vallarta. Most anglers do not know marlin love warm water and striped marlin love the cooler waters here in the winter. This creates some epic fishing here in Mexico during the winter months. If it’s too cold where you live come and join us for some warm weather and unbelievable fishing. The water temperature here never gets cold but will drop down enough to move the black marlin to other areas. When the water cools down to around 72 degrees in January the black marlin move to warmer waters. This cooling of the water brings all kinds of new bait into the bay of Sayulita and the striped marlin loves this cool water. These fast-eating marlin troll the waters of our bay looking for all kinds of new bait that arrive with the cool waters moving in. There will be dorados to be caught here in the winter fishing. We don’t see the big schools like in the summer, but they are found offshore around structures. With warm beaches and cool waters, the fishing in Sayulita, Mexico is hard to beat.
Some of the best all-around fishing in Sayulita is right here in our huge bay. The bay here is one of the largest in North America and it just teeming with fish. The yellowtail will be here in full force. These pelagic fish when schooling will hit just about any bait from ralpalas to pitch baits. The latter being one of the best. Most days you will find these huge fish close to shore feeding on the millions of sardines we have here every winter. If you find the baitfish the yellowtail will be in the area. A couple of more incredible fish we find in January are California Bonita and Spanish mackerel. These delicious fish can be caught at will here in our bay. Seems like the action is non-stop. The best method for catching a boatload to eat is the slow troll with ralpalas along with Clark spoons. The standard squid skirts work as well. The larges on will hit the rigged mullet we troll for sailfish as well. The best water to fish for these fantastic fish is in the bay with ralpalas rigger on the short lines with some black bart medium size lure for mahi-mahi and on the long lines some mullet with skirts for sailfish and marlin. After fishing here for more than 36 years this the best hook-up tolling technique for offshore and inshore fishing here in Sayulita Mexico.
. We started off with lots of fireworks and hot fishing. If you are looking for a fantastic place to fish and have a fun time, then come down to beautiful Sayulita where the friendliest people in the world live and work. Some of us are fortunate to be able to fish here every day. Let us be part of your Mexico vacation. Please call 800 4306048 or shoot us an email SayulitaFishingCharters@outlook.com

Sayulita Fishing Report September
Tropical fishing conditions now upon us here in Nuevo Vallarta Mexico. The fishing boats are seeing on and off sporadic afternoon thundershowers, which are common during this month of September. The passing of some rainy weather has left the fishing offshore while open. The late rains we have are barely felt and will continue until late October. The humidity is high now and will decrease as the year moves on and there was more afternoon southern breeze. This means we are getting closer to fall fishing. These types of fishing conditions are very favorable for the anglers we have come down now until the end of fall. The best of the best fishing it to come for our fishing grounds. The fishing for this fall will be super busy for folks want to come down so please check for reservations before coming down.
This last month the offshore produced some of our all-time favorites. The blue and black marlin we hanging around the same places from years past. This meant running out to some of the best fishing places in Mexico.
The Cortbetena and El Banco did not disappoint the fishermen’s will to take a chance on a large trophy fish. The overall ocean conditions were favorable, with moderate swells, though the wind did pick up later in the day to around 10 knots. The offshore water temperatures now ranging 80 to 86 degrees. This is some hot water to go along with the hot fishing we have been having here in Nuevo Vallarta.
In recent days there has been great inshore fishing. The sardines are still hanging around in the bay and make for some fantastic bay fishing. There have been good numbers of bay fish. The yellowtail, snapper, skipjacks, bonitos, mahi-mahi, and a few nice sailfish. These short 4 to 6 hrs fishing trips are producing much fish for inshore fishing clients.
This will continue until the later part of this fall when the water temperatures start to cool down a little. With so many bait options were slabs of squid, Caballito, ballyhoo, and skipjack found on inshore grounds ,this will keep all kinds of pelagic fish close to shore. This kind of great fishing days will keep all the anglers coming down happy and with bent fishing rods.
The best action has been for dorado, roosterfish, and yellowtail for inshore fishing here in Nuevo Vallartaalong with an occasional sailfish., Out by the islands the has been a limited mix of bottom species and some scattered billfish action.
Off the bottom fishing the highlights were a few hogs-sized snapper, up to 50 lb., and a mixed bag of other fish for good eating.
